Joining BSRLM
The current membership rates are shown below. These are kept to a minimum because BSRLM does not employ any administrative staff or buy in any administrative support. The administration of BSRLM is done by the executive committee with the support of the membership.
How to become a member of BSRLM?
There are a number of ways in which you can become a member.

This is the method of payment we recommend as it keeps administrative work to a minimum. In order to pay by standing order:
- Complete the online membership form
- Print and complete the standing order form then send to Steven Watson, Membership Secretary, British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics, School of Education, The Dearing Building, University of Nottingham, Jubilee Campus, Wollaton Rd., Nottingham, NG8 1BB, UK. This needs an actual signature as there is no facility for electronic signatures
- You will receive confirmation of your membership. If you have not received confirmation within 14 days of posting your standing order form, please contact the membership secretary.
Option 2: Paying by credit card, debit card or PayPal
If you can’t pay by standing order, you can pay through PayPal:
- Complete the online membership form
- Follow the appropriate PayPal links below to pay for membership
- You will receive confirmation of your membership. If you have not received confirmation within 14 days, please contact the membership secretary.
Option 3: Alternative methods of payment

Further membership information
Payment by cheque and cash on the morning of the conference
This facility has been available in the past, but as conferences have become increasingly busy this has caused a great deal of congestion and queueing. We want to avoid processing new memberships on the morning of conferences, except in exceptional circumstances. If you feel this is the only means by which you can join BSRLM then contact the membership secretary to arrange this in advance. You will need to complete a membership form in advance.
Invoicing organisations
Unfortunately, we cannot offer this facility as we do not have the administrative support. If your organisation is prepared to pay your membership then you will need to pay and claim it back from your organisation.
Joining later in the year
New membership will normally be back-dated to 1st January of the year you apply, and you will receive copies of all relevant publications for that year. In the case of new members joining between September and December, a one-year subscription payment will cover the period until the following December (13-16 months) but this will not cover back copies of publications.
Overseas Members
BSRLM has a growing overseas membership. If you are based outside the UK you are welcome to join BSRLM. You will receive the printed issues of Research in Mathematics Education at no extra charge.
Renewing your membership
Membership runs from January 1st to December 31st each year. If you pay by standing order, then your membership is renewed automatically on January 1st each year. If you pay by credit card or cheque please ensure that we have received your membership fees before the renewal date of 31st of December. If your details have changed then complete a membership form.
Research in Mathematics Education
As part of your membership, you receive three annual issues of RME by post. This applies to overseas members and there is at present at no extra charge for overseas postage. Prior to the publication of each RME issue, the publishers, Taylor and Francis, request a list of addresses of members eligible to receive that issue. It is important that members keep us informed of changes of address.
Email mailing list
In order to keep members updated we use an email mailing list hosted by the University of Nottingham. Your details will be added to this list on joining BSRLM.
Membership enquiries and enquiries about RME issues not received
BSRLM has no dedicated administrative support; members of the executive committee carry out this function. If you have an enquiry about your membership or about receiving your print copies of RME please allow seven days for a reply.
